Zoology was first taught at the University of Minnesota within the College of Agriculture beginning in 1871. In 1881, zoology became a course of study within the College of Science, Literature and the Arts. The first reference to a Department of Animal Biology occurs in 1893. In 1927 the Board of Regents voted to authorize a name change from Department of Animal Biology to Department of Zoology. In 1965, the Department of Zoology was moved to the newly established College of Biological Sciences....
